Trump and the Capitol Insurrectionists are Traitors

I feel it is folly to use the charges brought up against Trump and the January 6th rioters as a true measure of guilt.

There’s a high bar to securing a conviction for treason, so I understand why many of these individuals were charged with lesser crimes. That does not mean society will nonchalantly overlook their misdeeds and forgive and forget.

They are all insurrectionists, traitors, and guilty of treason.

The above statement is not even meant to be politically hostile or incendiary in an already divided America. It’s simple fact by definition.

Insurrection: The act or an instance of open revolt against civil authority or a constituted government.

Traitor: One who betrays one’s country, a cause, or a trust, especially one who commits treason.

Treason: The betrayal of allegiance toward one’s own country, especially by committing hostile acts against it or aiding its enemies in committing such acts.

Aside from being enemies of the state, I do find it comical that these democratic defectors coopted a moniker reserved for 18th century progressives by referring to themselves as Patriots. Conservatives during the American Revolution were the Loyalists to the crown, so perhaps a better nickname would be bootlicker.
